Temporary post to cover maternity leave
Rethink Mental Illness is a charity that believes a better life is possible for millions of people affected by mental illness. For 40 years we have brought people together to support each other. We run services and support groups across England that change people’s lives and we challenge attitudes and policy about mental illness.
Our communications division works to raise awareness of Rethink Mental Illness, the support we offer and our work to challenge attitudes and change policy. We communicate with the general public, people affected by mental illness, health professionals and commissioners through traditional and new media
This role works with our southern regions, alongside national media relations officers specialising in news and features and in collaboration with our social media, corporate communications, policy, activism and fundraising staff. It reports to the Head of External Communications. We’re seeking a talented media relations officer for a temporary contract. You’ll be generating positive coverage for our services, groups and regional activities in the south of England and liaising between communications and staff in the Southern regions.
You’ll bring experience of working with regional, local broadcast and print media and knowledge of how to incorporate new and social media methods into the public relations mix. This role requires frequent liaison with staff right across our diverse workforce, from frontline services to policy and research staff, mental health recovery workers to the Chief Executive. You will need an adaptive style and an understanding of the varied and dynamic needs of a complex organisation which is a service provider as well as a campaigning charity. With a solid track record in a similar sector, you’ll also have a commitment to our aims and purpose. This role involves frequent travel around the south of England, and is based in the London office.
