Job Description
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is a world-leading professional body with over 86,000 members, working in ground breaking areas from sustainable energy and aerospace to Formula One and cutting-edge medical technology.
In July 2009 the Government released its UK Low Carbon Transition Plan, which maps out how the UK will transition to a low carbon economy by 2020. The Institution is keen to monitor the success (or otherwise) of this plan and its development through an election and the UK moving out of a recession.
The purpose of this role is to breakdown the Plan, identify key performance areas and assess (with the assistance of IMechE members) how the UK and its Government is doing to achieve the targets within the plan. The ultimate aim is to create an annual UK Transition Report Card.
This role will sit within a small but highly effective Communications Team, which has generated over £10M in media coverage, produced six highly successful national reports, staged six MP briefings, six conference events, and 22 position statements in 2009 alone.
The candidate needs to have an extensive, well rounded public affairs and research background. With excellent interpersonal skills, the post-holder should have experience in running expert meetings, coordinating responses and gaining consensus.
12 Month Fixed Term Contract.
