Job Description
Reporting to the General Council, Europe and a key member of the Legal and Compliance team, this role will lead all Government Relations (GR) activities within Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with business leaders and key stakeholders to develop, articulate and drive Europe’s GR strategy and agenda
- Conduct regular regulatory and market analyses. Proactively lead consultations with relevant policy makers, trade bodies, regulatory/government officials, and other political circles etc to understand relevant government policy developments and influence potential decisions
- Leading lobbying campaigns on selected issues in appropriate countries/Europe. Develop and draft official Genworth Financial submissions and comment letters to regulators and policymakers
- Positioning GNW as preferred advisor on lifestyle protection and mortgage issues with regulators
- Working with the Communications team, pursuing thought leadership initiatives with key influencers, academics, and consumers’ groups
- Liaising with internal business leaders to devise innovative commercial solutions for an evolving market and to facilitate new market entries.
- Co-ordinating a virtual team of resources responsible for engaging core governmental, political and public sector organisations in Europe. Work collaboratively with existing Finance, Operations, Risk, and Business Development associates.
- Work with Regional Managers and Country Managers to develop GR capabilities at the local level
- Monitoring, responding and advising on all political issues within Europe
- Ensuring senior leadership teams are kept up to date on relevant political developments
- Work closely with investor relations teams to ensure a seamless political communications strategy across key LP and MIE stakeholders
- Create and manage speaker bureau/ambassador requests
- Lead GR team.
Essential Experience
- Substantial regulatory, political, & government relations experience within Europe
- Extensive experience in insurance or banking sectors with a strong understanding of the regulatory and political environment
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within European political systems
- Exceptional planning and time management
- Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately and to work collaboratively in culturally diverse work groups
- Ability to influence across functional areas and lead virtual teams
- Excellent analytical and judgement skills
Preferred Experience
- Strong understanding of key regulatory issues (e.g., Basel II, Solvency II, etc)
- Strong understanding of lifestyle protection & mortgage insurance markets, distribution and operational models
- Outstanding communicator at all levels, especially to senior level audiences
- Strong global political contacts and relationships
- Previous leadership experience
- Foreign language capabilities
- Legal degree or background preferred
