Job Description
The Publishers Association (PA) is the leading trade organisation serving book, journal and electronic publishers in the UK.
Our core service is representation and lobbying, around copyright, rights and other matters relevant to our members, who represent roughly 80 per cent of the industry by turnover. Our membership is open to publishing companies that operate in the UK.
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Overall purpose of the post:
To manage complex issues on behalf of the publishing sector, defining policy positions across the PA’s constituency and communicating them internally and externally; to devise and manage delivery of public affairs outcomes, including stakeholder management, advocacy and Parliamentary campaigning; to lead the PA’s strategic policy priorities and establish the PA as a thought leader both to its members and across the publishing sector.
The role is based in central London, however the successful candidate should be prepared to travel overseas occasionally.
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 dependent on experience – please quote current salary when applying.
Main responsibilities:
- Work alongside the CEO and Senior Management Team to take full ownership of a portfolio of policy issues, with responsibility for delivering positive outcomes; and supporting activity on all other policy issues
- Develop and deliver an evidence-based advocacy programme in support of the PA’s policy positions, including policy papers and think pieces
- Develop and deliver strategic plans for building effective relationships with the PA’s stakeholders, and working collaboratively where appropriate
- Develop platforms and channels for communicating the PA’s policy positions to members and other stakeholders
- Manage the production of PA responses to government consultations at UK and EU level
- Provide briefing materials on a broad range of complex issues
- Attend regular meetings with Civil Servants and key meetings with ministers and other senior figures
- Act as an ambassador for the sector, representing the publishing sector on key national bodies and delivering presentations on the industry at major events and seminars
- Develop and deliver a strategy for handling the media effectively and broadening the PA’s exposure and coverage.
