The Social Research Unit Job Description

The Social Research Unit prides itself on the quality of its research, its influence on policy and practice and its ability to communicate in lively and interesting ways. We edit a peer reviewed academic journal and we publish a daily on-line newspaper. Compared to academic institutions we are way ahead of the curve, but we think we could do better. We are looking to extend our reach and have a greater impact.

A recent independent review of our dissemination work has made recommendations we can’t implement; we need to bring new talent into the organisation to help us.

We are looking for a smart, entrepreneurial individual who is passionate about social justice and understands modern media. You will have high level written and oral skills – you might have some experience as a journalist. You will be comfortable ‘in the middle’ representing our organisation but also willing to defer to experts. You will be astute at finding opportunities to collaborate with government and other charities to maximise our intellectual capital. You will see smart ways of linking our publications, events and media activities.

We will not prescribe how to implement the review findings. It will be for you to decide. The more funds you attract, the more freedom you will have.
