Age UK Job Description

9 month maternity cover to start early July.

Age Concern and Help the Aged - two respected household names working for and with older people – have merged to create Age UK. The new organisation is inspired by the belief that it can improve the lives of people in later life. With more people aged 65 and over than aged 16 in the UK today, the range of issues connected to our ageing society is huge and calls for the strongest skill-set possible to get our messages out there. We are looking to appoint in our innovative and well-respected media team.

We are looking for someone with a flair for communicating policy and campaigning issues to the media to join our busy press office.

You will work closely with colleagues across the influencing division to develop and implement media strategies to shape public attitudes and opinions, influence policy and political debate and promote the organisation’s national campaigns.

With experience in delivering high impact media coverage, you will proactively and reactively identify, initiate and manage news stories on the issues of health and social care in later life.

You will have extensive experience of working in a fast-moving press office, with good contacts in national and trade media and a strong track record of delivering high quality issues-based media coverage. You will be ready to hit the ground running with knowledge and understanding of health and social care issues. With excellent writing and communication skills, you will work to tight deadlines and be able to analyse and translate complex policy and political issues to the media and general public.

35 hours/wk.
