Job Description
The JSMT is dedicated to the promotion of good governance. We are looking for a self-servicing Deputy Director to join our small, hard-working team based in central London. The successful candidate will have a broad range of skills and experience and a commitment to the values of the Trust. They will need to have exceptional networking and communication skills as s/he will be working closely with young political leaders from a range of different countries in the former Soviet Union and, in the future from other regions. The heart of our work is the Fellowship Programme. This comprises a series of events in a yearly cycle beginning with promotion of the Fellowship and interviewing candidates in the seven countries we currently operate in and culminating in the Fellowship Programme in London and Edinburgh.
While an interest in international politics is important, what is essential for us is that the successful candidate can hit the ground running in launching and organising the 2011 Fellowship programme this September, that you care about detail and getting the logistics right and that you have the financial literacy to make the right financial planning recommendations in a complex budgetary cycle. In addition, an ability to work closely with the Director in the area of fund raising from the private sector is vital and organising and strategically utilising our contacts database is central to the role.

JOB SPECIFICATION
Responsibilities:
To manage and develop the JSMT Corporate Friends Scheme, building on the existing base.
To manage the JSMT office, including overseeing staff, interns and book keeping.
Income generation: Working closely with the Director on managing and delivering new income generating projects, including new areas of corporate sponsorship, being able to manage and follow-up on leads generated and close deals with the target of making the Trust self financing in the long term. Managing and utilising our contacts database.
This task is to be based in London but involving travel to Edinburgh and Moscow.
Manage the Office: Manage and develop the Trust’s staff team including interns. Manage the day to day running of the Trust office. Liaise with key contractors and suppliers. Ensure good stakeholders relations with funders. Ensure strategic diary function is properly performed. Supervise the staffing of Trust board meetings.
Representation of the Trust: at meetings and other events in the UK and abroad and deputising for the Director as necessary.
High end networking: Including the ability to close significant funding deals with corporate donors
Financial management: Working with the Director and Treasurer on the Finance Panel
Regional specialism: Up to date applied political science knowledge of the region and its politics dynamics or recent experience in a diplomatic, NGO or military role in the region
External Relations: Working closely with the Director in managing relations with donors, contractors and service providers. Contribute to the development of the Trust’s network in Russia and abroad.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Previous experience in international organisation ideally in a public affairs, office management and fund raising role
- Knowledge of Russian language and/or the current political and business environment in Russia and the former Soviet space
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- Educational background in international politics
Essential skills:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- High level of computer literacy and competence
- Flexibility, initiative and attention to detail
Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of Russian language
- Database management experience
