Job Description
The level of Parliamentary and political interest in the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and in the financial services industry we regulate has never been higher – and with the planned changes in financial regulation, we’ll continue to be in the spotlight. The Parliamentary Affairs team within our Communications Division is our link with Westminster, responsible for articulating our position and priorities in political circles.
These roles offer an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the FSA, manage our relationship with Parliament and inform politicians about our work. As well as contributing to the strategic development of a proactive communications and engagement programme, you’ll monitor Parliamentary debates and Committee hearings, prepare for Parliamentary Committees, and draft replies to MPs’ letters. Advising the FSA on Parliamentary matters will also be a key element of your role.
You will need an in-depth understanding of the workings of Parliament and sound political judgement. As well as having the credibility and interpersonal skills to communicate to a range of parliamentary stakeholders, you must be able to get to grips with complex policy issues and explain them to non-specialist audiences in accessible language. Drive, initiative and sound decision-making skills are essential, while knowledge of the financial services sector would be useful.
With significant change in financial regulation, and a new Government in office, this is a fascinating time to come on board.
