In a world of Freedom of Information, does voluntary transparency still matter?

This free to attend evening debate will examine the relationship between transparency and Freedom of Information (FOI). It will discuss whether a proactive approach to transparency is really necessary, in a world of increasing freedom of information. We’ll look at lessons learned within the public sector - and how those might translate to the private sector. And we’ll ask whether FOI can enhance transparency; or whether it will eventually restrict the transparency it seeks to support.

Chair

Suzanne Wise, Group General Counsel & Company Secretary, Network Rail.

  • Sir Alex Allen KCB – Prime Minister’s Independent Advisor on Ministerial Interests and former Permanent Secretary, Department of Constitutional Affairs;
  • Dr Ben Worthy – Lecturer in Politics, Birkbeck College, University of London;

  • Maurice Frankel – Director, Campaign for Freedom of Information – campaign to defend and improve the act.
