The British Beer & Pub Association, the leading trade association representing the interests of the brewing and pub sectors, is seeking a Communications & Campaigns Officer to work in the Public Affairs and Campaigns Team.

Based in our head office in the City of London you will provide effective support for, and contribution to, the core work of the Public Affairs and Campaigns Department in delivering public affairs, communications, events and media relations that promote the interest of the Association’s members generally and with particular focus on the Association’s regional activity.

Duties will include:

  • Monitoring Parliamentary and political developments, as requested by colleagues;
  • Monitor media and update databases of media and other contacts;
  • Assist in compiling briefing material to be used in communications with Government, MPs policy makers and key stakeholder groups;
  • Coordinate the production of a Daily Digest incorporating PA and Communications news;
  • Compile and circulate regular newsletters, news updates, position statements and other communications to the Association’s members;
  • Support in the co-ordination of Association PR campaigns;
  • Engagement in social media and website support;
  • Draft and distribute press releases and other information to appropriate external audiences;
  • Oversee the production of Member Briefings;
  • Assist in the organisation of promotional events;
  • Handle incoming calls for the Communications Department;
  • General support for the public affairs team.

The role also has a regional focus with a secretariat service supplied to our regional associations which would include regular travel to the relevant regions, support for their meetings and development of regional events.

Working in a busy department, you will need to be a team player, highly numerate, efficient, with initiative and a positive “can do” attitude. The post would suit a graduate, ideally with a degree in politics or the social sciences. A keen interest in the beer and pub industry is essential, along with good interpersonal and written skills. Excellent IT skills and an attention to detail are a must, as is lots of enthusiasm and a sense of humour. Understanding of Government and political structures would be welcomed. Event management experience is desirable.

The salary will be dependent on skills and experience but is likely to be in the range of £21,000 to £23,000 with the potential for enhancement after a probationary period plus benefits including pension, health insurance and gym membership.
