Want to help make a genuine difference for UK insurers and their customers?

We’re looking for Policy Assistant, Conduction Regulation to support the conduct regulation team’s work to promote suitable regulation of insurers consistent with Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) objective to make markets function well for customers. You’ll tangibly see how your team guide and effect policy across a huge section of the industry.

You don’t need to have prior expertise in insurance to apply – we can support your learning and development in this area.

Your role:

Reporting to the Manager, Conduct Regulation, the core of your role will be to assist the team on various General Insurance, Long Term Savings and European conduct regulation issues.

Day to day you will:

  • Complete high-quality research and analysis to help formulate persuasive policy positions;
  • Support and coordinate the conduct team’s event programme and weekly newsletter;
  • Update members on relevant regulatory developments at UK and EU level and produce agreed ABI views when necessary;
  • Prepare initial drafts of policy papers and summary documents;
  • Contribute to policy development work with members, including providing pro-active and efficient secretariat to working groups/committees;
  • Monitor and help to influence the development of European and FCA initiatives in coordination with colleagues across the ABI and update members when necessary;
  • Attend, participate in and support relevant Committees and Panels.

The role is based at the Association of British Insurers, located in the City of London.

Where can this role take you?

Wherever possible, we support our staff to develop their careers internally. The next natural step for you in this role would be a Policy Adviser – but this is flexible.

With a supportive environment and the fantastic exposure you get to lots of people in the industry and the knowledge you’ll build on a range of regulatory and policy issues, the ABI is a great place to start your career.

What training and benefits are offered?

On your first day, you’ll be met by our HR team for a company induction. You’ll then have inductions to get you up to speed with anything from Events to how our finances work, plus one to ones with relevant colleagues. Everyone goes on the CII Introduction to Insurance course and will receive plenty of on the job training. We host various Staff Learning Events throughout the year and you will be able to attend relevant ABI and industry events.

Additional training will be driven by your own personal needs and ambitions and we have a range of courses as part of our Learning and Development offering.

We’re looking for:

You’ll be interested in developing knowledge on European and UK insurance focused conduct regulation issues. We work in an open plan, collaborative environment so you’ll need a confident and proactive communication style. You’ll be comfortable managing various different projects and most importantly, be able to quickly digest and analyse complex documents, making it accessible to others.
