The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Principal purpose of the Post:

To primarily support the development of the ukactive External Affairs strategy through the delivery of an effective public affairs function, ongoing policy research and partnership building with leading members and key stakeholders. This will be supplemented by supporting the organisations growing consultancy service.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting a programme of Parliamentary activity:

  • Monitor government policies, laws and regulations that could adversely affect the organisation or sector or present opportunities for development;
  • Contribute to policy briefings and consultation responses;
  • Plan, develop and execute ukactive’s policy and parliamentary work with the goal of furthering its aims and objectives to ensure an enduring legacy post May 2015.

Contribute to the wider work of the ukactive External Affairs team:

  • Support campaigns and policy initiatives that support new and existing communications, public affairs and research programmes;
  • Support in the drafting of press releases, policy papers, consultation responses, briefing materials, fact sheets and external presentations;
  • Support the delivery and management of external events including set piece events, policy roundtables and a themed series of focus groups.

Support the growth of the ukactive Consultancy Service:

  • Support in the provision of business development, policy and communications advice to clients;
  • Establish and nurture a strong working relationship with client representatives and develop an understanding of clients' commercial and policy objectives;
  • Support in the delivery of client work plans that meet their expectations and objectives.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • The post-holder may be a generalist but desirable experience includes demonstrable knowledge of ukactive key policy areas such as public heath, commissioning and sports policy and an understanding of the activity, fitness and leisure sector;
  • Experience in working with clients, preferably through a client facing role;
  • Experience in organising and managing events, focus groups and roundtable discussions;
  • Strong understanding of parliamentary processes and working in public affairs environment. Demonstrable experience in influencing policy positions is desirable;
  • Strong communications skills with a commercial ability to generate additional business;
  • Strong written skills including experience in writing briefing papers and reports;
  • Strong organisational skills including ability to multi-task, plan and work to timetables;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an approachable, friendly manner.

Salary: £25,000 (opportunity to rise by £1,500 including OTE)
