Job Purpose
To provide solid, reliable support to the ABI’s public affairs team with a range of practical and administrative tasks. In return, we will provide real world, varied and engaging work experience.
Reports To: Senior Public Affairs Adviser
Directorate: Advocacy
Duration of Internship: 6-12 months
Principal Responsibilities:
- Administrative tasks associated with the successful running of the Government Public Affairs Network meetings - sending out agendas, updates and compiling attendee lists;
- Administrative tasks associated with ABI’s 2015 party conference activities - sending invitation letters, compiling attendee lists, booking rooms and arranging catering;
- Political monitoring - monitoring daily events in Parliament, writing notes of Select/Bill Committees for colleagues across the ABI;
- Event support - support for the Public Affairs team’s wider political events programme including the Parliamentary Reception and roundtables dinners;
- Supporting ABI Prospective Parliamentary Candidate and post General Election engagement - support with drafting letters, arranging meetings with Prospective Parliamentary Candidates and new MPs;
- Political research - producing biographies of parliamentarians, researching political interests of key parliamentarians;
- General administrative support to the Public Affairs team dealing with basic enquiries from stakeholders;
- Work closely on a variety of issues with wider Advocacy Directorate.
Candidate Profile:
- A keen interest in current affairs and politics;
- Good written and verbal communication skills and proven experience in these areas;
- Organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage several pieces of work at any one time;
- Ability to work under pressure and to agreed timelines;
- A mature, confident and friendly manner with the ability to build strong working relationships and to interact effectively with colleagues;
- Keen to learn and gain experience at an exciting time for the trade association and for one of the UK’s biggest, most successful industries;
- Degree in Politics, International Relations, Economics or a related subject;
- Experience of working in Parliament or public affairs would be desirable.
