Lincoln Hill, an Account Executive at Weber Shandwick, has been awarded the Douglas Smith Prize 2014. He was presented with the award and a £500 prize at the PubAffairs & PRCA Public Affairs Christmas Party, supported by Capstone Hill Search.

The prize, in its second year, recognises the best young talent working in public affairs and lobbying. It is named in memory of the late Douglas Smith, a PRCA Founding Fellow. PRCA Director General Francis Ingham handed over the prize at The Tapster on Thursday 27 November.

Hill has been at Weber Shandwick since joining as an intern in September 2013. Before joining the consultancy, he completed an MSc in International Political Economy at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The applicants, all 27 or under at the date of closing, were asked to submit an article entitled "Together in the national interest: what has coalition meant for our industry?”. Alongside this, all applicants were endorsed by a senior colleague they work with on a day-to-day basis.

The judging panel, chaired by Lionel Zetter, PRCA Public Affairs Group Chairman, based their decision on a number of criteria, including: innovative approach to public affairs; enthusiasm and dedication; the applicant’s contribution to team morale and ethos; willingness to pass on their knowledge; and their contribution to politics and their wider community outside of work.

Francis Ingham commented: “Each and every one of the shortlisted candidates should be proud, but Lincoln’s unbridled enthusiasm just could not be ignored. People talk about Doug’s legendary passion, so it is only fitting that this clinched it for Lincoln."

The other shortlisted Finalists were: Melissa Barnett (PB Political Consulting), Jordan Campbell (Ketchum), Alastair Hill (MHP Communications), Tim Knight (PLMR), Matt Palutikof (Connect Communications) and Zoe White (PLMR).
