The Capital Markets Climate Change Initiative: progress and opportunities

Gregory Barker MP, Minister of State for Climate Change

The goal of switching the world economy to low-carbon energy is urgent but the scale of investment needed is daunting, even for high growth economies. The Capital Markets Climate Change Initiative (CMCI) was launched by the UK Government to recruit private sector help to meet the $100 billion of new green investment required annually by 2030 to tackle climate change in developing countries. There are many benefits and opportunities associated with doing this including the further refinement of green technologies, the provision of finance, and the provision of the professional skills needed to bring individual projects to successful, financially viable operation. Come and hear the Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker, give an update on this project with which many UK companies are actively involved.
