Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Job Details

LSTM aspires to be recognised as a centre of world class research that is acknowledged internationally for its role in promoting improved health for people in less developed countries in the tropics and sub-tropics. A professionally led and highly effective communications programme is seen as a critical success factor in achieving this objective.

LSTM is therefore seeking to appoint a high calibre individual with the appropriate qualifications and experience to drive both strategic and tactical communication programmes to meet the corporate needs of the organisation as well as the specific needs of the school’s research projects / consortia programmes.

The Communications Director will respond directly to the LSTM Director and have executive responsibility for all aspects of communication within the School. The post will be based in Liverpool with overseas travel as required.

Key Attributes Required of Candidates are:

  • Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively to achieve results;
  • Supporting and striving for organisational excellence through intelligent and robust decision making abilities;
  • Confidence and gravitas in working with a political and commercial understanding of wide ranging global matters;
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering effective communication and media strategies in a global multi-faceted environment;
  • Proven record of leadership of a strategic Communications function that assists in driving change;
  • Experience of managing a successful strategic communication function using tried and tested communication capability;
  • Experience of managing a range of communication media including new digital media and social network sites;
  • Experience of leading and implementing both internal and external communications across a diverse range of activities;
  • Experience of risk and reputation management including proactive and quick response media relations activity;
  • Experience in managing staff, a variety of external partners and influencing peers positively;
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent for example in business management; Communications or PR areas with evidence of professional CPD in similar role.
