The Association of British Insurers is the leading trade association for insurers and providers of long term savings. Our 250 members include most household names and specialist providers who contribute £12bn in taxes and manage investments of £1.8trillion.

As part of the ABI’s management team, you’ll be leading our strategy and policy development on savings policy issues.

This is a high profile role, responsible for representing the interests of the UK long-term savings sector and making sure our members get the most from their relationship with the ABI.

Striking a balance between analytical skill, political nous and an engaging, persuasive communication style is vital. You will split your time between making sense of what new government policies mean for our members and meeting with key contacts in Government, regulation and the media. You’ll also be speaking at high profile conferences and events.

Your role:

  • Lead the ABI’s strategy and policy development on savings policy issues, including on pension tax relief, automatic enrolment, long-standing customers and platforms;
  • Contribute to the delivery of an improved reputation for the industry and improve the long term value of the ABI for our members through advancing policy positions;
  • Lead policy debates at ABI Committees and Working Groups to develop and advance credible positions which take into account the views of members and the impact on consumers;
  • Engage with senior executives in ABI member companies on issues of strategic importance and represent the interests of the sector in meetings with key stakeholders (e.g. in Government), in the media and at external speaking engagements.

We’re looking for:

  • Demonstrable experience of policy development and relationship management and the ability to win confidence and build strong relationships;
  • Excellent analytical capability with an evidence based approach to policy making, decision making and problem solving coupled with the ability to think strategically and to identify and act on opportunities and challenges;
  • Strong communicator, with the ability to clearly articulate arguments, and to present effectively at senior level meetings, conferences and in the media;
  • Experience of leading, managing and developing a highly motivated and high performing team;
  • A background in the financial services industry.

Knowledge of the pensions and Long Term Savings market would be preferable, but we welcome applications from all policy development backgrounds.
