Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

An exciting full-time opportunity has arisen to join PubAffairs, the award-winning network for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

PubAffairs has a unique offering within the public affairs sector, providing the industry’s premier - and regular - networking opportunities for practitioners and suppliers to further their personal and business outreach. Our events started small in 2002 and we have since run more than 150 networking events in both Westminster and Edinburgh: in the last year our 20 events attracted 1,600 attendees from all levels. PubAffairs maintains the most well reputed Jobs Board in our industry sector together with the leading online resource for public affairs information.

PubAffairs is a micro-business. As a small team, together we closely manage the operation and development of our services so as to ensure continuity of content, information dissemination and fulfilment of client services. PubAffairs’ operations especially have grown over the last few years and the post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to, and directly be involved in, all elements of the continued development and success of our business and activities.

Website:

  • Uploading jobs, news and other items to the PubAffairs website;
  • Acting as the point of contact for client content;
  • Designing and executing display advertising (i.e. buttons and banners);
  • Managing statistical reporting;
  • Contributing to the evolution of the website and its growing content.

Social Media:

  • Leading on Twitter/LinkedIn and other social media streams to build engagement and promote the PubAffairs network and content.

e-Newsletter:

  • Producing the twice-weekly main e-Newsletter and Friday’s GraduateForward e-Newsletter;
  • Creating content including promotional and display advertising;
  • Managing the membership database.

Events:

  • Leading and managing our events, playing a significant role in their success;
  • Ensuring that venues, events staff and logistics are prepared thoroughly;
  • Managing and responding to RSVPs and maintaining guestlists;
  • Managing attendee lists and related statistical reporting;
  • Represent PubAffairs at external events.

Business Development:

  • Build relationships with new and existing clients;
  • Having the awareness and confidence to identify potential opportunities in the market;
  • Researching, planning and executing marketing initiatives.

What sort of candidate are we looking for?

Essential

  • An interest in Politics/Public Affairs profession;
  • Highly computer literate;
  • A personable communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A confident networker;
  • Well organised, proactive and self-starting;
  • An eye for detail.

Desirable:

  • Experience of email marketing tools such as Constant Contact;
  • Experience of Photoshop or equivalent;
  • An understanding of the Public Affairs market;
  • Event organisation experience.

This is a full time, remote-working role which initially is offered on a freelance contract basis. Candidates must be prepared to work from home both independently and as part of the PubAffairs team.
