Dementia devastates lives. By 2021, 1 million people will be living with the condition. But dementia won't win. Until the day we find a cure, Alzheimer's Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity and we will champion and empower anyone affected by dementia – wherever they are, whatever they're going through. Everything we do is informed and inspired by people affected by dementia and we are looking for someone to join us who is equally passionate and driven to help us achieve our aims.

We are embarking on a bold new five-year strategy, a New Deal on Dementia, which sets out a vision for an inclusive society where people affected by dementia have the relevant information, advice and guidance to participate on their terms, in a dementia friendly society.

About the role:

The Country Director for Wales is a unique, non-operational post, that will lead Alzheimer’s Society’s work to mobilise change in the lives of people affected by dementia across either Wales. With specialist knowledge of the country’s governance and political stages, the role will ensure the effective influencing of health and social care outcomes, building partnerships and engaging society at large in the growing dementia movement.

The role will be responsible for ensuring that all Society activity (Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, Campaigns & Partnerships and Operations) are informed mindful of Welsh national and local policies, practices, needs and culture.

About you:

This unique and specialist role calls for extensive local experience and knowledge of the political landscape within Wales.  You will have a proven track record in building and maintaining external relationships and communicating with government and political stakeholders to influence well-targeted campaigns that will bring considerable benefits to the Society and people living with dementia.

You will need to work both independently and effectively as part of a team, connecting across multiple Directorates to ensure the Society’s outcomes in each country are realised.  You will have a strong gravitas, able to influence and persuade both internal and external partners.

Educated to degree level or with a similar level of experience you will have a proven track record of delivering outstanding presentations and promoting a cause through the media, including experience in giving radio, TV and print media interviews. You will have strong leadership and management skills to undertake a ‘country’ wide lead and matrix management role in a large national organisation

Do you have excellent interpersonal skills?  Do you have empathy with the aspirations of people with dementia and those who care for them?  Can you inspire everyone to play a part to unite against dementia?  If so we would love to hear from you.
