‘Society needs great social work. Social workers need a great professional organisation. This is BASW’.

Can you make our message more attractive and reach further?

The British Association of Social Workers (BASW) is the 22,000-member strong professional association for social work and social workers across the UK. Having been in existence for 47 years, our aims have never been more ambitious and our opportunities never greater than now. Our 2020 Vision is for BASW to make a step change in levels of membership and activities and to be fully recognised as the definitive professional body for the profession – the ‘Strong, Independent Voice of Social Work and Social Workers’ – in the next three years.

We need an energetic and highly capable candidate to develop and deliver our strategy, build our external impact and provide excellent management of resources and leadership to staff within the communications department.

If you are a communications and external relations specialist with considerable experience of leading at a strategic level, an understanding of social work or a closely related field, an affinity with the values and ethos of social work, and are ready for a job with the creative freedom to make a real difference to a vital field of work, we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will join a fast-changing organisation with a committed and supportive leadership team, an ambitious Chair and Council (Board of Directors), a strong, multidisciplinary staff team and a vast pool of expertise and active engagement to draw upon from within our membership.

We are a UK-wide and international organisation and the ability to work effectively with colleagues in all four countries of the UK, and support our work across Europe and globally, would be essential. The post-holder will report directly to the Chief Executive, Dr Ruth Allen and will work closely with her and with the Chair on external strategy.

Location: London or Birmingham (able and willing to be in Birmingham HQ for at least part of most weeks to effectively manage Birmingham based team and attend management meetings).
