The London Assembly holds the Mayor to account for his £17 billion annual budget by publicly examining his policies and programmes. Its 25 elected Assembly Members are champions for London. They review and investigate issues that affect everyday life, working to improve the running of the city in areas such as policing, transport, housing and planning, the economy, health and the environment.

As part of the London Assembly’s Scrutiny Team you will ensure we maximise the impact of our work through effective engagement strategies and external relations activities. We’ll look to you to help us shape our reputation, influence debate, policy and practice, and to provide expert advice on media, communications and public affairs issues.

Reporting to the Head of Scrutiny, and managing a team of External Relations Officers, you will develop impact strategies for the Assembly’s work, drawing on a wide range of communications channels including events, speeches, press articles and online and social media. You will help the team to identify and engage with key stakeholders to ensure that the Assembly’s work reaches the right audience, be it Londoners, the Mayor and GLA or other key bodies including local and central government. You will also provide a media service for the four-yearly GLA elections.

This is a key position at the heart of the capital's government, so a good understanding of the political landscape in London is important. Experience of successfully delivering a broad range of external relations strategies, initiatives and techniques is essential. In particular, you'll have an excellent grasp of how organisations can increase their influence on policy issues and with stakeholders that matter to them, and how different communication approaches can be used to achieve this. An exceptional communicator, you'll also be capable of selling your ideas to a questioning internal audience and measuring and recording the impact of your activities.

If you feel you have what it takes and can demonstrate a proven track record in delivering service improvements in challenging environments, we’d like to hear from you.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan, childcare voucher scheme and a career average pension scheme.
