This is an exciting opportunity within our European Area Business Organisation - Europe being a large proportion of Cummins global business. We have recently changed our structure in the region, bringing together senior leaders from across business units and functions to ensure we provide the best possible support to our large European customers and maximize our growth potential. As a result of this structure we are now looking to recruit a Government Relations Professional to help us to communicate with the UK government and be involved in our Government Relations in Europe.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:

  • Leading the government relations activities in the UK;
  • Collaborating with consultants in Government Relations in Europe;
  • Working with the senior leadership team across Europe helping to understand the impact of government and legal changes, and to align strategy, policy and services accordingly;
  • Helping to maximize the opportunities for government funding and helping to develop European strategy for the corporation;
  • Representing the organisation’s interests up to the highest levels of the UK government, including national, provincial, regional, and local government;
  • Managing a Government Relations consultancy in Europe who will establish rapport with government officials, industry associations and trade organisations to ensure representation of the organisation’s interests; working with industry and trade groups to develop and advocate for common industry positions. Managing all aspects of the relationship with the consultancy including budget and contracts;
  • Driving alignment process to ensure that government relations is tightly connected to business goals and objectives; identifying key government issues for business; advising leadership on public policy issues and regulatory matters; helping to managing the risk to the enterprise from government actions;
  • Developing short-term government affairs initiatives and tactics, aligned closely to business objectives; analysing legislative and regulatory proposals for the business;
  • Highlighting opportunities for sales to Government;
  • Being an active member of external industry bodies, helping to develop a picture of industry views and being able to represent the views of Cummins;
  • Drafting internal and external communications documents relating to Cummins government advocacy activities and strategies;
  • Speaking at external and internal meetings regarding public policy issues and activities; serving as an external spokesperson with public policy stakeholders for the company, particularly for the country or business of assignment;
  • Coordinating all activities with Government Relations for UK and Europe; managing outside consulting firms in Europe;
  • Championing continuous process improvements to mitigate risks throughout the organisation.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of the legislative process, government organisations and interactions in the UK (essential) and Europe (desirable);
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of politics and the political environment;
  • High level strategic planning skills;
  • Strong influencing skills;
  • People management skills;
  • Knowledge of business issues in the UK (essential) and Europe (desirable);
  • Knowledge of automotive and off-highway sectors desirable;
  • Understanding of emissions and related regulations desirable.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:

  • Degree Level or equivalent.

Compensation and Benefits:

Competitive base salary in line with experience. Package: Final salary pension (8% contribution), family private health insurance cover, employee and spouse health screening, variable compensation (bonus) up to 25%, company car option, Life Assurance + various flexible benefit options (cycle to work, childcare vouchers, share purchase scheme).
