Job Description:

Our client is seeking a ‘Group Head of Policy’ to develop and maintain a group-wide, strategic advisory role for national education, skills and training policy, through a deep understanding of government policy, consultation and legislative work in education, skills, employment and social justice.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining a group-wide ‘radar’ for all issues associated with national education, skills and training policy, building innate understanding of government policy, consultation and legislative work in education, skills, employment and social justice;
  • Working independently, and with the group’s research and planning team, to support consultation responses with first-class standards of interpretation, insight and analysis;
  • Ensuring strategic and tactical alignment of the group’s national policy agenda with local and regional public affairs agendas;
  • Developing strategic influencing links with key senior contacts, industry partners, networks and collaboration groups including Westminster, all party parliamentary groups and the Association of Colleges;
  • Providing detailed briefings, reports and analysis of the group’s policy work highlighting progressive impact and demonstrating clear understanding of the changing policy agendas and the group’s ability to influence these.

Essential skills:

  • Sound current knowledge of UK national policy and governance;
  • Excellent interpersonal / communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to present complex ideas in clear ways appropriate to a variety of internal and external audiences;
  • Experience and confidence in building productive relationships with established and emerging groups and influencers, both internally and externally;
  • Natural ability to assess intended / unintended consequences of policy, with extensive experience of predicting / consulting on policy impacts and feeding into business planning at senior levels both internally and externally.
