Our client is a leading financial services membership body representing members in the UK and globally.

This role sits within The External Affairs team which is responsible for the anticipation and recognition of external developments in the business and regulatory environment in which it operates, and for the development and delivery of high quality, professional and innovative outputs on key issues positioning the organisation as a leader in its area.

The role requires a subject expert in Corporate Governance, particularly for SME’s. As part of the External Affairs team, the job holder will use his/her established and recognised credibility, reputation, profile and network in the business environment to develop, maintain and enhance the organisations standing and profile in this fundamental area of knowledge. The jobholder will demonstrate a depth of technical expertise that is deferred to both internally and externally.

A high-level of independent thinking and ideas generation will enable the jobholder to initiate, propose and represent the organisations positions within the subject area to key external and internal audiences. The jobholder will be supported by a team of project and subject-focused managers and will work within governance and management structures.

Key responsibilities:

  • To represent the organisation in engagement with relevant external high level forums, committees, regulators, legislators, employers and other relevant external and internal stakeholders;
  • To influence key external stakeholders to consider, recognise and acknowledge the organisations contribution to the development of thinking and practice in this subject area;
  • To act as a subject expert on behalf of the organisation;
  • As part of the senior management team the postholder will ensure that the three year and annual plans for External Affairs fully reflect and anticipate developments in this subject area and are resourced appropriately;
  • Lead a team to generate high-quality policy and content in this subject area;
  • Ensure that all internal stakeholders are provided with guidance and support on the delivery of key messages in this subject area to their key audiences;
  • Ensure that the organisations network of influential contacts in this subject area is managed and grown to deliver strategic objectives in leading the profession globally;
  • To champion the External Affairs plan internally and externally.
