Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) advances the global interests and profile of Scotch Whisky, its member companies, and of the industry as a whole. The Association is heavily involved in responding to policy developments impacting the industry and takes a leading role in the promotion of the industry on behalf of its members.

Scotch Whisky attracts political and media interest from around the world and the SWA, primarily through the public affairs & communications department, is often the voice of the industry.

In order to develop on this aspect of its work, the SWA is opening an office in London this year. As a result, it wishes to recruit a London-based Head of External Relations who will be responsible for enhancing the Association’s reputation as a relevant and authoritative voice on a range of key issues. 

Responsibilities will include, but won’t be limited to:

  • Build engagement at Westminster and with a range of key Whitehall departments, including DEFRA, Treasury, BIS, DECC, Department of Health, HM Revenue & Customs, and Home Office;
  • Identifying key stakeholders more broadly and ensuring that appropriate relationships are developed and maintained;
  • Contribute to SWA policy development in areas such as taxation, economy, health, energy, transport, and manufacturing policy.

Your experience will include, but won’t be limited to:

  • Extensive experience of working within – or closely with – government and/or in Parliament;
  • Strong understanding of public policy environment and development and good knowledge of UK political and media environment;
  • Skilled networker, with expertise in influencing and developing relationships with senior level stakeholders;
  • Experience of stakeholder mapping and prioritisation, and designing an engagement or influencing strategy.
