An opportunity has arisen for a Head of Governance at a unique public sector body. 

You will:

  • Ensure compliance with, and the smooth and effective operation of, relevant best practice corporate governance arrangements for all formal decision making, recognising the need for and implementing swift and flexible approaches where required by regulatory business and other imperatives;
  • Act as secretary to the Board its sub committees and the Executive Committee, including agenda setting with the Chair /relevant committee chairs;
  • With the Executive Director of Legal Services act as co-conscience of the Board on ethical issues and the 'transparency agenda';
  • Oversee via the Governance Manager(s) and the Governance Officers the operation and decision making of the executive committees;
  • Responsibility for all administrative matters (including agenda, paper distribution, minute taking, follow up actions and required practical arrangements) in connection with Board meetings, workshops and away-days and meetings of relevant committees;
  • Delivery of the internal and external audit programme;
  • Act as a confidential sounding board to the chairman, non-executive directors and executive directors on any corporate points of concern, and to take a lead role in managing any difficult inter-personal issues on the Board.

You will:

  • Have experience of working within an Executive level committee or Board environment;
  • Be a confident communicator with strong presentation and drafting skills;
  • Have detailed knowledge of the structure and operation of Government;
  • Be a confident communicator with interpersonal skills and an ability to present data and information in a clear and logical way;
  • Have good diplomacy and interpersonal skills in dealing with stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally;
  • Strong organisation skills and an aptitude for forward planning;
  • Strong administration capability.
