The Institute of Fundraising and Public Fundraising Regulatory Association have begun a new Strategic Partnership, working together to further the shared interests of our members. An important first step for us is recruiting a new Head of Media & Public Affairs, working jointly across both organisations.
Reporting directly to the Director of Policy and Communications at the IoF and Chief Executive of the PFRA, you will develop, establish and implement a shared media and public affairs programme. This role will identify key influencers and decision makers in the media and in Westminster and Whitehall, then target them with carefully crafted messages on the importance of charitable fundraising.
Job Description:
- Develop, establish and implement the IoF-PFRA public affairs programme for 2015-17;
- Identify key stakeholders and decision makers in Westminster and Whitehall (as well as the Devolved Nations), developing engagement plans for each body;
- Undertake policy development and analysis in support of the government relations programme;
- Identify and monitor UK regulatory proposals that may have an impact on the charity fundraising sector, identifying any key media opportunities and threats;
- Build and sustain a detailed level of knowledge on key policy developments affecting the sector;
- Provide timely briefing and support to the Director of Policy and Communications (IoF) and Chief Executive (PFRA) on media and public affairs issues;
- Ensure the timely and effective production of information material, press releases etc. supporting the IoF-PFRA’s position on key issues;
- Develop and maintain excellent contacts with press and media officers in the rest of the sector, as well as member companies and charities;
- Handle relations with communications media, ensuring that the IoF-PFRA’s positions are well formulated, and clearly made known to journalists in the press, radio and TV, and to the maximum extent possible fairly presented in those media;
- Design, develop and deliver strategic communications campaigns using the full marketing mix;
- Develop and maintain good contacts in all media, ensuring the IoF-PFRA are seen as an accurate and timely source of information.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience of working in a press or media role in a government affairs environment;
- Track record of working with senior stakeholders and developing strong public affairs programmes;
- Excellent understanding of effective communications skills and techniques, including campaign planning and evaluation, with the ability to translate complex issues;
- Sound news judgement and political acumen;
- Awareness and understanding of UK / Devolved Nations’ executive and legislative systems;
- Experienced in compiling accurate and reliable media briefings and policy reports.
