Wayfindr is a non-profit organisation, set up to create the first global standard for audiowayfinding on mobile devices. We want to empower vision impaired people to overcome isolation, and navigate the world just using their smart phone.

As a key member of the team, you'll be charged with developing and implementing a public affairs communication strategy to promote the adoption of audio based navigation by major stakeholders across the sectors of transport, retail, tech companies and public bodies. This will be on an international scale, with a focus on the UK, Europe and USA.

In your role you will also facilitate the development of the Wayfindr Open Standard for audio based wayfinding and publish an update in Q3 2017 to inform submission to ITU in December 2017. This will include a desktop review of all technologies for audio wayfinding related systems in order to identify the key technology stakeholders.

Job Description

  • Research, develop and put in place a public affairs strategy to achieve business plan targets;
  • Develop processes for delivery and monitoring;
  • Develop and maintain a stakeholder map in line with the objectives on adoption;
  • Manage a stakeholder database and report on progress against prospects;
  • Create reports into target stakeholders position on accessibility and their environment and recommended policy approaches;
  • Consolidate insight reports on policy and industry developments that will affect Wayfindr;
  • Create a set of communications and reasons to support pitch documents that can be adapted in line with individual stakeholder policy and needs;
  • Represent Wayfindr at meetings and events;
  • Consultations with key stakeholders and wider community to inform submissions to ITU;
  • Secretariat for consultations;
  • Collating proposed changes to the standard for submission to ITU;
  • Gathering and validation of insights from live and laboratory trials of audio wayfinding instructions;
  • Finalise and publish updates to the standard;
  • Monitor backlog of assumptions to be validated;
  • Develop and maintain a review of key technology stakeholders for the standard;
  • Assist and educate stakeholders in using the open standard and advise clients on why and how to use the standard.

The Successful Applicant

  • Degree level and relevant professional membership;
  • Experience of developing public affairs strategies and ability to implement them;
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills;
  • Experience and track record in leading successful public consultations for public standards;
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills;
  • Great networking skills;
  • Good project management;
  • Political and government knowledge of the UK, Europe and USA desirable;
  • Knowledge of digital innovation in smart cities desirable;
  • Knowledge of how public standards are developed and maintained desirable;
  • Knowledge of mobility and orientation for vision impaired people useful.
