Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

As part of ongoing work within their policy team, our client is looking for some interim Economists to give support on 3-6 month contracts (with the possibility for further extensions).

On their behalf we are looking for people who have a sound grounding in economics, preferably with a degree in economics, and/or a policy background with substantial experience working alongside economists. Successful candidates must have previous experience of Consumer or Competition policy.

This will be project based policy work - assigned flexibly across a range of projects. There are opportunities from junior analysts through to senior level people capable of driving projects forward with competitive and flexible day rates in accordance with experience.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Economist and/or an experienced Consumer/Competition policy advisor with substantial experience working on analysis requiring a sound knowledge of economics;
  • Experience working in areas relevant to Competition and Consumer policy, gained in a professional environment e.g. consultancy, industry or a regulator. Of particular interest are people with experience of policy development in the UK sector regulators;
  • The roles require strong analytical skills and strong communication skills both written and oral;
  • Candidates must be able to develop analytical frameworks used to develop policy, and able to reach robust, evidence based conclusions on the merits of various policy interventions to benefit consumers;
  • We have a range of roles for candidates with a proven track record in policy development or a strong background in economics - for those with proven experience in a consultancy, government department, regulatory body or relevant corporate.
