Our client is a major UK healthcare organisation undergoing a period of leadership and cultural change. They have instructed us to search for an interim Head of Corporate Communications to communicate change and improvements across the organisation to the media and external stakeholders.

Working closely with the CEO and Director of Marketing, the role holder will be responsible for driving strategic communications, proactively and reactively protecting the organisation’s reputation, and for engaging with a diverse range of media and stakeholders, both externally and internally.

The role holder will:

  • Create and implement a compelling communications strategy, supporting the organisation’s operational and commercial aims;
  • Guard the organisation’s reputation and profile through reactive media engagement and proactive horizon scanning for potential threats;
  • Oversee and direct all external communication to ensure that the organisation’s messages are consistently and compellingly communicated to stakeholders via appropriate media;
  • Take the lead, along with the CEO and board, in developing and shaping the organisation’s core brand values and strategic messaging;

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience of managing communication strategy around complex change projects, and of ensuring relationships with key stakeholders are maintained to a high level during change;
  • The ability to thrive in a fluid and rapidly evolving environment;
  • Sufficient gravitas to win the confidence of the organisation’s C-suite, major media figures, and key stakeholders;
  • An open working style, based on team collaboration, listening to colleagues, seeking input from others, and achieving consensus. The ability to inspire, motivate and lead by example;
  • Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write compelling and engaging copy;
  • The ability to think strategically, but also implement at a tactical level.
