My client is a membership body, representing professionals in the financial services space globally, with nearly 50% of their members are overseas.

They are active in strategic decision making for government around many issues across financial services, insurance, investment and also wider public policy areas such as health, social care and environment.

The body engages proactively with external audiences and stakeholders through a number of channels, and they currently require a new Media Relations Manager to take the lead on this in order to raise the profile of the organisation and members. This will involve both proactive and reactive media handling.

The responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Enhance their reputation as a respected, reliable and responsible source of expertise;
  • Identify and exploit opportunities to build a national and international profile for the organisation and its key spokespeople;
  • Develop and maintain proactive relationships with key journalists on trade and national media;
  • Drive awareness of research and developments, identifying high profile thought leadership opportunities and developing messages to contribute to national policy debate and headlines;
  • Position the organisation as a key commentator on key news stories in relevant areas of policy;
  • Extend their reach across a wider range of media in order to broaden its influence on public policy matters where actuarial input is relevant and desirable;
  • Day to day responsibility for the press and media activities;
  • Supporting the Head of Public Affairs.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Proven media relations and communications experience within the financial services sector;
  • Experience of communicating policy positions;
  • Experience of building professional networks and developing relationships with journalists;
  • A good grasp of the workings of government;
  • Experience of preparing press releases, comments, articles, briefings for print, broadcast interviews and material for other copy.

The role is London based, with some UK travel and occasional overseas travel to attend events and meetings.

As well as a very competitive salary, which is above the market rate, my client offers a very generous benefits package, bonus and pension scheme.
