This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in high profile work that will shape Britain’s future. As Britain prepares to exit the European Union, you will help us to solve challenges, create fresh possibilities and embrace opportunities.

At the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU) we are responsible for providing leadership across government. We will be instrumental to ensuring Britain gets the best deal and builds a deep and special partnership with the EU.

As a Policy Adviser in DExEU, you will be at the heart of our important work focusing on policy development, delivery and implementation. Ours is a fast-paced and collaborative environment in which diversity, new thinking, rigour and professionalism are valued highly. We are seeking to recruit policy advisers to a number of teams across the department.

The nine policy directorates in DExEU cover a wide range of priorities from leading on the Department’s work to coordinate the domestic policy and  legal implications of exit across government departments, to international agreements and trade, justice, security, and migration. You will lead teams to scrutinise policy and delivery planning, catalyse implementation and develop policy positions that resolve government wide issues.

In the Priority Projects Unit, you will be a key member of a small team that provides flexible strategic and policy support to a range of high priority, short-term projects across DExEU. We will assign you to a variety of interesting, high profile projects, typically for around two months at a time. With the support of a line manager within the Unit, you’ll relish the breadth and scope of challenges on offer across many complex topics.

In all teams, your work will be varied and vital. It will include anything and everything from significant policy delivery and analysis, through to short term problem solving on urgent issues. Working closely with policy teams, you’ll provide support on project planning and management.

Highly motivated and extremely organised, you are comfortable adapting to frequent changes in projects and priorities. A real people person, you have the ability to forge good working relationships quickly with colleagues in a variety of teams.

To be equal to the challenge, you’ll need a demonstrable ability to identify key issues and feed them into considerations of strategy. You will bring to the role a proven flair for data analysis, with the skills to identify the main issues in complex problems and present your conclusions. Naturally, the ability to build strong working relationships and engage with people at all levels is essential.
