A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Policy Advisor with a membership association.

You will:

  • Policy: Contribute to or lead specific reviews of regulatory and policy issues;
  • Evidence: Develop the evidence base to analyse and develop new policy including supporting the management of research;
  • Briefing: Draft policy papers, reports and briefings for a range of audiences;
  • Engagement: Work with regulators, senior team, board members and external stakeholders to support and develop regulatory and policy work;
  • Lobbying: Identify, develop, and implement influencing and lobbying strategies and activities to advance policy objectives.

Some of the policy issues include:

  • A Corporate Governance Green Paper (shareholder rights, controls on executive pay, regulation v voluntary codes);
  • The draft Finance Bill (penalties for advisers on tax avoidance schemes deemed unacceptable by HMRC; implications for legal professional privilege);
  • The draft Criminal Finances Bill (new corporate offence of failure to prevent money-laundering).

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Previous experience of policy making;
  • Previous experience in, or knowledge of business related policy issues; this could be by having worked in government or another business focused membership group;
  • Demonstrable analytical skills and the ability to deal with complex and varied information;
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to converse at all levels; both internally and externally;
  • A proven background in successfully engaging with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
