A leading education and skills focused organisation currently have a vacancy for a Policy Adviser (Education & Skills).

As the Policy Adviser (Education & Skills) you will be responsible for developing public policy positions on education and skills issues that are focused on the needs of employers whilst developing strategic partnerships with a variety of organisations including industry, government and training providers.

A highly visible role, you will also:

  • Develop education policy across England, Scotland and Wales in support of skills and training needs;
  • Ensure policy positions are focused on employer needs, based on robust evidence and a shared understanding across industry, education, training and Government;
  • Be responsible for the production of reports, policy papers, briefings and presentations to support ‘thought leadership’ activity;
  • Respond to Government consultations.

With an in-depth knowledge of the policy and political environment you will also have a background in education and/or skills policy development (schools/ FE/HE/professional skills). Candidates must also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A strong and relevant academic background to degree-level or equivalent;
  • Demonstrable experience of developing evidence-based policy positions on education policy issues;
  • Direct experience of engaging with the UK Department for Education;
  • Demonstrable understanding of the devolved administrations in the UK;
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with experience of engaging with MP’s, civil servants and other senior level audiences on policy matters;
  • Experience of working with at least one of the following – schools, colleges, universities.
