Join the Network

We are recruiting a Policy Adviser to join our Long-Term Savings Policy team. You’ll work collaboratively to maintain an effective and influential profile for the ABI and play a pivotal role in securing legislative and regulatory framework allowing the life and savings industry to grow, compete and innovate.

You will shape the life and savings industry to the benefit of the industry and its customers. Developing influential relationships with key industry stakeholders including Governmental departments, trade and consumer bodies is a hugely important part of the job.

Your role:

The core of your role will be to work with our members and relevant contacts in government and regulation to develop policy positions and deliver policy projects on behalf of the long-term savings industry.

Your policy areas will be determined in line with current priorities and your skills and expertise. However, the key policy areas are expected to be automatic enrolment into workplace pensions, and identifying ways to help the self-employed to save, as well as other areas which may emerge, such as pensions tax relief.

You’ll also work with the rest of team on Retirement and Savings Policy, which covers issues like digital developments in long term savings, transfers of investments and pensions, social care and consolidation of defined benefit schemes.

Where can this role take you?

Wherever possible, we support our staff to develop their careers internally. The next natural step for you in this role would be a Senior Policy Adviser – but this is flexible.

With a supportive environment and the fantastic exposure you get to lots of people in the industry and the knowledge you’ll build on a range of regulatory and policy issues, the ABI is a great place to continue your career.

What training and benefits are offered?

On your first day you’ll be met by our HR team for a full company induction. You’ll then have inductions to get you up to speed with anything from Events to how our finances work, plus one to ones with relevant colleagues. Everyone goes on the CII Introduction to Insurance course and will receive plenty of on the job training. We host various Staff Learning Events throughout the year and you will be able to attend relevant ABI and industry events.

Additional training will be driven by your own personal needs and ambitions and we have a range of courses as part of our Learning and Development offering.

More detail on our company benefits can be found here.

We’re looking for:

You’ll need to be skilled at putting together evidence based, compelling policy initiatives and passionate about representing our members.

Confidence presenting to a variety of audiences and ensuring the content is tailored to them is key, as well as strong lobbying skills and ability to influence senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere.

You don’t necessarily have to have a background in Financial Services, but you will need a good understanding of the UK‘s consumer, legislative and regulatory environment, including knowledge of the workings of Parliament. Better still, you will know the ins and outs of the UK’s long-term savings industry – including one or more of our key policy areas.

About us:

The ABI is the voice of the UK’s world leading insurance and long-term savings industry. A productive, inclusive and thriving sector, we are an industry that provides peace of mind to households and businesses across the UK and powers the growth of local and regional economies by enabling trade, risk taking, investment and innovation.
