Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

Working closely with members of the team involved in local and market affairs, you will be responsible for building and maintaining constructive relationships with a wide variety of our stakeholders – from large banks and insurers, to consumer groups and trade bodies.

You will:

  • work collaboratively with colleagues to monitor and build relationships with stakeholders – which might include government, regulators, financial businesses, consumer organisations and the media, as well as internal colleagues – and to help capture, analyse and share insight;
  • influence and persuade across a range of stakeholders – understanding how best to engage with a variety of audience;
  • understanding the context and wider environment in which our client operates –including what’s driving industry, political and media agendas, as well as trends in managing and escalating these;
  • communicating complex or sensitive messages in writing – being clear, engaging and accurate;
  • communicating and influencing in a clear, balanced and thoughtful way – over the phone, online, in writing, and in person – using the right channel to engage people in what matters and ensure messages are consistent;
  • prioritising and organising a varied workload and doing what it takes to get things done whether it’s answering individual questions from stakeholders or producing broader communications and pieces of work.

Essential skills:

  • experience dealing with stakeholders, both internally and externally – with an understanding of local and public affairs;
  • a great understanding of public policy issues – and how they’re changing;
  • skilled at building trusted networks, and will be able to advise our senior leaders with knowledge and insight gained through monitoring the financial and consumer protection landscapes;
  • an excellent communicator who’s able to understand what’s going on behind the headlines and translate complex policy debates into plain English.

This is a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract role.
