Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

Based in our offices in Soho, the Commercial Broadcasters Association (COBA) is the UK trade association for multichannel broadcasters and on-demand services. It provides representation to the Government, Parliament, regulators and other policymakers, as well as the media.

Role Summary

Reporting to our Executive Director, the successful candidate will provide support to the Executive Director and members on political and regulatory matters, as well as supporting the Executive Director with media and member communications. There will be some engagement with senior officials, MPs and industry. This is a new post.

Key skills and experience sought

  • Experience of UK politics and/or policymaking vital;
  • Demonstrable organisational skills essential;
  • Knowledge of broadcasting sector desired;
  • Understanding of processes and priorities for a membership body desired;
  • Understanding of or experience of media relations desired.

Main duties

  • Monitoring and researching proceedings at the Houses of Parliament, government departments, European institutions, think-tanks, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other bodies in order to inform the Executive Director and members;
  • Working with the Executive Director, develop briefings, presentations, and reports for policymakers, MPs, members and media;
  • Writing weekly newsletter to members and press releases;
  • Organising key events and key meetings, including report launches, receptions, monthly member roundtables and external roundtables;
  • Identify key stakeholders in the decision-making process at European, national, regional and local government levels;
  • Attending select committee hearings, party conferences and other events;
  • When required, direct contact, in person and in writing, with politicians, civil servants, and regulatory bodies to brief them;
  • When required, representation on external committees, trade associations and events;
  • Maintaining up to date databases for political contacts and media;
  • When required, leading on specific projects such as written responses to public consultations or liaising with trade associations and other stakeholders on specific issues;
  • Update and manage COBA website.
