Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

We are currently looking to recruit a Policy and Public Affairs Manager to support the Head of National & Regional Policy and Public Affairs in the development and delivery of public affairs programmes with elected political audiences. To represent FTA’s members to outside audiences on issues in the south and east of England - including with local councils and media. To manage and support FTA Freight Councils in the same area.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of National & Regional Policy and Public Affairs to develop and implement proactive plans for engagement with key political audiences;
  • Participate or carry out meetings with Parliamentarians;
  • Manage response to Parliamentary / political inquiries;
  • Develop relationships in the south / south east of England to ensure FTA is aware of local policy development and local audiences are aware of logistics issues;
  • Respond in writing and in person to policy proposals concerning the south-east of England;
  • Represent FTA and its members at external meetings as required;
  • Act as Secretary to FTA’s Freight Councils in the south-east of England;
  • Provide comment to media / social media as required;
  • Work with other Policy team members across other policy issues as required.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or with business qualifications or political or transport experience;
  • Persuasive and articulate communication skills in writing and in person;
  • Confidence to represent FTA externally at the highest levels and with media;
  • A team player able to contribute to FTA’s wider policy, communications and commercial objectives;
  • Knowledge / experience of either the political process or freight transport issues is required.
