About the Role

This role leads policy analysis and engagement on social and public policy as it relates to disabled people globally and in the UK. It develops and promotes Leonard Cheshire’s policy positions and profile internationally and in the UK.

Our policy influencing efforts are firmly rooted in the need for change, and the progress and advancement in our own organisation. Therefore, by 2022, we will have expanded our role as a key player in evidence-informed influencing of policies, laws and practices in the field of employment, education and independent living, working in partnership with organisations of people with disabilities globally and within the UK. We will have also adopted a shift towards policy influencing that fully reflects the rights-based approach, is guided by evidence and ongoing reflection and advancement, and puts people with disabilities and their organisations at the heart of relevant processes.

About You

You will oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of Leonard Cheshire’s international and national (UK wide) policy and support wider activity. You will have experience of engaging with the political system and know how to influence and achieve policy change. With an appreciation of disability policy, you will bring experience of engaging with campaigners and other interested individuals through various channels.

You will be able to identify and promote influencing opportunities at global, regional, pan-regional and national levels. You will be able to analyse and interpret complex information and data as well as drafting and presenting this material to a variety of audiences. You will have excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work under pressure. We seek candidates with a genuine commitment to the values and ethos of Leonard Cheshire.
