The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Main Responsibilities

  • To undertake monitoring, analysis and regular briefings on all relevant industry issues for members and across the organisation;
  • To develop policy positions, consultation responses, briefings and lobbying materials (research, drafting, presentation and communication) in liaison with members, key departments and other stakeholders;
  • To take lead responsibility for specific policy issues and subjects across as required and defined with Senior Policy Manager and Department Head;
  • To manage effectively all aspects of the organisations policy committees, working groups, and other policy team processes and papers;
  • To proactively support and brief all relevant committees and sections on policy developments as required;
  • To manage the presentation of all policy aspects on the website and in any future use of social media, working with the team, in coordination with Communications and technical colleagues;
  • Represent the organisation in internal and external activities and meetings as required;
  • To support all aspects of the planning and delivery of the political communications and engagement programme;
  • To undertake lobbying activities, including internal and external representation and working-level engagement for the policy team;
  • To support on delivery of key Policy events and other projects as required;
  • To support the maintenance and development of the political contact database;
  • To support the Senior policy team across all team activities, ad hoc research projects and events as required;
  • To provide policy input and support for the work of other teams in the department and across the organisation.

Necessary Skills

  • Graduate level qualifications with proven experience in a public affairs or policy role;
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral including presenting;
  • Strong analytical skills and judgement;
  • Experienced in writing accurate and reliable reports, position papers and presentations to deadlines;
  • Evidence of strong time management skills, including an ability to prioritise and manage projects;
  • Highly motivated professional team player, eager to learn and contribute to policy development and relationship management in a small and busy team context;
  • Solid knowledge and experience of UK legislative processes; EU knowledge is desirable.
