ROLE:

The RICS UK External Affairs department is responsible for achieving recognition of RICS standards by raising the profile, influence and reputation of RICS as a UK, independent, and expert body serving the public interest. It provides the interface between RICS and its external audiences; manages RICS member communications; and provides thought leadership on public policy and parliamentary affairs.

Leading RICS’ public policy work across the infrastructure and construction sectors, the Policy Manager will build influence, credibility and profile, underpinning the status and reputation of the profession, and gaining recognition for their standards, date and products.

In addition you will be forming relationships with Infrastructure UK, BIS, DfT and HMT, LEPs, major procuring agencies and major companies relevant to policy areas of infrastructure and construction, and managing innovative projects on UK policy issues to demonstrate and promote RICS’ thought leadership, including delivery of RICS infrastructure influence plan during the parliamentary session 2015-2020.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

a) Organise and deliver policy collateral on infrastructure and construction issues. Help develop, and where required, lead RICS’ policy statements;

b) Working in partnership with members and professionally qualified colleagues to develop high quality, relevant and timely policy events and papers;

c) Administering and managing member policy events and groups in the regions;

d) Work with other policy staff around the UK across identified policy priorities;

e) Work closely with internal regional stakeholders to ensure that policy development is properly informed and communicated to all audiences. Work regional member networks to assist policy formulation and to deliver member satisfaction;

f) Identifying and building relations with key policy contacts within Government and other relevant groups, within an agreed framework;

g) Leading on responses to major policy events. Acting as a media spokesperson within an agreed framework.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

a) Understanding of the political and policy making process in Westminster, Whitehall and Brussels;

b) Knowledge of infrastructure and construction issues;

c) Strong diplomacy and engagement skills;

d) First class written and spoken English;

e) Strong analytical and research skills;

f) Full UK driving licence.

DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

a) Media training (will otherwise be provided).

You may have experience of the following: Policy Manager, Construction, Infrastructure, Senior Policy Officer, Legislation, Policies, Public Affairs, Policy Development, Project Management, Policy Analyst etc.
