The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhances and improves the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.

The agency is an Executive Agency of the Department of Health and, unusually, has policy responsibility within Government for medicines and medical devices regulation. We are advertising an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to gain experience of the challenges facing an important Executive Agency working as part of Government and the wider health and social care network.

The role is based in the Agency’s Policy Division, which undertakes complex work to support the Agency to meet its public health remit and deliver responsibilities to Government and Parliament.

The Policy Officer and Business Manager is a critical role in the Policy Division – s/he manages and coordinates the work of the Director of Policy and provides an essential administrative role for the overall delivery of the Policy Division; policy support to deliver specific objectives within the EU, International and Strategy Team; and has significant visibility through the Agency as the work involves working with senior officials and external contacts. The post will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to put into practice their excellent organisational skills while also developing competences in policy development and project management techniques.

We are looking for a candidate with previous office and administration experience who can demonstrate regularly using their own initiative and organisational skills. The successful candidate will be motivated, able work under their own initiative, keen to contribute to a high-performing team, have strong written and oral communication skills and be comfortable dealing with senior colleagues and external contacts.

Please note this is fixed term contract of up to 1 year to cover maternity leave.
