The Russell Group, which represents 24 leading universities in the UK, are currently seeking a Policy Researcher to strengthen their Policy team. This is a permanent full-time post.

The successful candidate will undertake policy research in a number of areas to support colleagues in the Policy team.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Carry out research relating to policy development with direction from other Russell Group staff;
  • Contribute to high quality, persuasive and evidence-based Russell Group briefing papers, consultation inputs, and reports and publications on relevant issues for a variety of audiences including the Russell Group Board, government, member universities, and policy-makers;
  • Collect and maintain information about key activities and developments within Russell Group institutions which relate to Russell Group policy priorities;
  • Initially focus on areas relating to research and innovation and on aspects of international policy relating to the EU and immigration, but the postholder will have opportunities to work on other areas of policy.

Candidates will need to demonstrate that they can manage and prioritise a challenging and varied portfolio of work, meet tight deadlines, and work cooperatively and flexibly as part of a team.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of working on research projects, in particular policy;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to write in clear, concise English for different audiences;
  • Critical analysis skills;
  • Process and manage new information and policy areas rapidly;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Ability to work proactively and to manage own workload;
  • A good level of numeracy and proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Political sensitivity.

The salary on offer will be £27,000-33,000 dependent on skills and experience and the post is based in central London. Other benefits include a generous career average pension, a subsidised canteen and an interest-free travelcard loan scheme.
