Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The Russell Group, which represents 24 leading universities in the UK, are currently seeking a Project Officer and Policy Researcher to strengthen their Policy team. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day administration and coordination of a national schools outreach programme working with participating universities and Department for Education officials. You will also undertake policy research in a number of areas to support colleagues in the Policy team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Create and maintain detailed project management documentation to ensure the project remains on track, and any risks and issues are identified;
  • Liaise with colleagues in member universities, and other partner organisations, to collate information and work proactively to resolve any issues that emerge;
  • Compile project reports and draft project communication material;
  • Develop a project evaluation plan;
  • Contribute to high quality, evidence-based Russell Group policy papers;
  • Collect and maintain information about key activities within Russell Group institutions.

Candidates will need to demonstrate that they can manage and prioritise a challenging and varied portfolio of work, meet tight deadlines, and work cooperatively and flexibly as part of a team.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of managing/coordinating projects;
  • Strong attention to detail and critical analysis skills;
  • Process and manage new information and policy areas rapidly;
  • Ability to write in clear, concise English;
  • A good level of numeracy and proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage own workload;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Political sensitivity.

The salary on offer will be £27,000-33,000 dependent on skills and experience and the post is based in central London. Other benefits include a generous career average pension, a subsidised canteen and an interest-free travelcard loan scheme.
