The ABI is the voice of the UK’s insurance and long-term savings industry. It has more than 250 members, which together account for around 90% of premiums in the UK domestic market.

The ABI’s role is to:

  • Be the voice of the UK insurance industry, leading debate and speaking up for insurers;
  • Represent the UK insurance industry to government, regulators and policy makers in the UK, EU and internationally, driving effective public policy and regulation;
  • Advocate high standards of customer service within the industry and provide useful information to the public about insurance;
  • Promote the benefits of insurance to the government, regulators, policy makers and the public.

The ABI is currently recruiting a Public Affairs Adviser to join the Advocacy team. This role will work collaboratively with the Public Affairs Manager and internal colleagues to maintain an effective and influential profile for the Association with a wider range of stakeholders including members of both Houses of Parliament in the UK as well politicians in the devolved bodies in Scotland and Wales.

By joining the Public Affairs team, you will prepare high quality briefing material on issues of interest to the ABI ahead of meetings with ministers and parliamentarians as well as coordinate briefings for Parliamentary debates. You will also have accountability for managing, organising and running high profile events such as the ABI Party conference activity. Another key feature of this role will be to build effective relationships with Government Affairs advisers in member companies and to manage ABI corporate relationships to ensure value for money and that the relationships meet the ABI’s strategic aims.

You will have proven experience in Public Affairs and will have a sound understanding of the mechanism for effective engagement with a range of stakeholders. In addition you will have a degree and/or a relevant professional qualification. It is desirable that you have experience of working in Parliament, however a breadth of experience gained in different environments is required. You will have the ability to build productive and professional relationships both internally and externally, produce high quality written work which communicates complex information and ideas in a clear and imaginative way and demonstrable experience of working to multiple deadlines.
