The role:

We are recruiting for two Public Affairs Advisers to lead the Society’s lobbying on legislation and other policy based campaigns. Working within a team of six, the post holders will be proactively delivering lobbying based projects to engage parliamentarians, ministers and other important political stakeholders, including drafting and editing written communications for parliamentarians and organising events.

They will ensure the efficient monitoring, analysis and internal dissemination of government and parliamentary information, in order that appropriate internal stakeholders are aware of developments in public policy, and contribute towards strategic advice on better engagement with our stakeholders.

What we're looking for:

  • Ability to develop innovative ways of communicating with political stakeholders, internal and member audiences;
  • A self motivated and enthusiastic team player;
  • Proven experience of planning and managing successful public affairs campaigns;
  • Experience of working within a parliamentary, political or public policy environment.

Essential

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline, for example Politics or Law;
  • Experience of working within a parliamentary, political or public policy environment;
  • Experience of planning and managing successful public affairs campaigns;
  • Strong interest in current affairs, especially politics, and a thorough knowledge of the political process and the workings of Parliament;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both orally and in writing;
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm;
  • Willing and able to develop innovative ways of communicating with political stakeholders, internal and member audiences.

Desirable

  • Evidence of personal activism within party politics;
  • A knowledge of the legal sector, and the public policy issues that influence it;
  • Experience of organising high quality events for political and other VIP stakeholders.
