An outstanding public affairs and policy manager is required to help the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) influence policy for the benefit of surgical patients. The RCS is one of the most high profile health commentators in the UK so this role would suit someone ambitious with a track record in public affairs and policy who has a demonstrable interest in influencing healthcare policy.

The College is a registered charity, which enables surgeons to achieve and maintain the highest standards of surgical practice and patient care. The interest of patients and healthcare are at the heart of our work, and we support surgeons of all specialties.

This is a critical post for the College and comes at a time of considerable political upheaval. This role will play a crucial part in influencing the new Government to make the NHS and surgery more sustainable, ensuring Brexit negotiations take account of our views, and lobbying on issues as diverse as the rationing of surgery by commissioning groups, winter pressures, cosmetic surgery, professional regulation, and surgical training.

You must be able to demonstrate a strong track record in either healthcare policy or public affairs and preferably both. You will also be responsible for line managing a member of staff. While we prefer candidates with the right level of experience, we also welcome applications from candidates ready for their next promotion who have the passion and potential.
