The Medical Protection Society (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of more than 300,000 members around the world. Because we believe prevention is better than cure, our Educational Services department was established in 2007 to assist doctors and dentists worldwide achieve excellence through self-reflection and constant improvement while also reducing their medicolegal or dentolegal risk.

The Communications and Policy Department seeks to appoint a Public Affairs and Policy Officer to work in our London office.

The Public Affairs and Policy Officer role will assist the Head of External Relations in the planning and delivery of MPS’s public affairs and policy function. This includes policy development and seeking to influence the medicolegal and dentolegal public policy debate by actively seeking and developing innovative ways to promote MPS as a leading commentator on these issues. The Public Affairs and Policy Officer will analyse, develop and advocate policy on behalf of MPS membership, drawing on internal and external expertise. The role will include an element of public affairs and policy activity in countries outside the UK where MPS has members.

It is desired that the applicant will have a degree or equivalent experience in a relevant social science such as politics, history or philosophy. The ideal Public Affairs and Policy Officer candidate should have a thorough knowledge and some experience of the workings of the House of Commons and Lords, Welsh Assembly, Northern Ireland Assembly, Scottish Parliament and institutions of the European Union and experience of developing policy and writing policy documents. They will have a detailed knowledge of the legislative process. Further training and full support will be provided.
