Do you have the confidence and drive to develop a career in public affairs and stakeholder engagement? The General Medical Council is looking for an outstanding and proactive Public Affairs Co-ordinator to support our work at the heart of UK healthcare. We can give you the chance to influence the UK, European and international agenda from a patient safety perspective and strengthen our voice in the medical regulation world.

The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met. Policy-making in the UK and EU and legal/regulatory developments further afield have a significant impact on our work. You’ll help ensure we take a joined-up view in response to UK, EU and international initiatives and ensure internal colleagues are aware of relevant policy and legislative changes.

Supporting the GMC’s engagement with Whitehall, Westminster and other key stakeholders, both across the UK and internationally, your role will be to ensure that our work is promoted and understood by these groups. You will support the UK, EU and International Affairs Team in ensuring we engage in a positive, balanced and well-informed manner. You’ll also have a key role in making sure that other GMC colleagues are aware of political, policy and legislative developments that have the potential to impact on our work.

All in all, you’ll support the GMC’s public affairs activities, communications and engagement to improve the knowledge of our organisation on a local, national and international scale.

Of graduate calibre, you’ll have a background in political science, economics or international relations. The ability to quickly gain an insight into medical regulation will be essential. In addition, you should have the confidence and credibility to build strong relationships with colleagues across the GMC and with external stakeholders.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.
