Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

A senior management position with an influential membership organisation which represents the interests of retailers across the UK on a range of issues including business rates, planning, alcohol policy and many more.

Reporting to the CEO and leading a team, you will develop the Association’s policy work, public affairs, media relations and research strategy.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading policy development with members;
  • Building relations with government departments, Parliamentarians, Ministers, Special Advisers and wider stakeholders;
  • Providing input into parliamentary business;
  • Arranging and managing events, including attendance at party conferences;
  • Developing and managing proactive media campaigns while overseeing the press office;
  • Acting as spokesperson and providing media briefings to other spokespeople;
  • Maximising digital and social media channels, and overseeing website and publications;
  • Identifying research projects for investment and securing partners, and disseminating to ensure maximum impact with stakeholders.

A proven track record in developing and delivering national public affairs and media strategies is essential and you’ll bring a strong network of contacts across all political parties and the media, coupled with in-depth understanding of political processes in Westminster, Cardiff, Edinburgh and the EU.

Working across a diverse range of issues at any one time, you’ll be adept at juggling a busy, varied workload in a fast-paced environment and you’ll have the leadership skills to provide direction to a talented team. Experience gained in-house or consultancy could be considered.
